Code of conduct

What we ask of students, accompanying parents and ourselves on a journey. Please read it with your child before you enrol.

Students

  1. Respect the people travelling with you, the staff, the people you meet and their customs; in temples, museums and workshops, follow the venue's rules.
  2. Follow the staff's arrangements and be on time for meeting points; nobody leaves the group or the accommodation alone without the staff's agreement.
  3. No alcohol, no smoking, and nothing illegal is carried, used or bought — including anything local law forbids.
  4. Take care of accommodation, transport and venues, and of other people's work and tools.
  5. Photograph and film with others' consent; photos of fellow students are not published without their and their parents' agreement.
  6. Feeling unwell, hurt or uneasy: tell a member of staff straight away.

Parents

  1. Keep the emergency contacts in your account accurate and up to date, and tell your advisor about allergies and dietary needs when you enquire or sign.
  2. Read this code and the pre-departure information with your child before departure, and confirm they understand and agree.
  3. On a family camp, a parent remains the first guardian of their own child and works within the staff's arrangements for the group.
  4. Contact during the trip follows the pre-departure information; in an emergency you are reached through the emergency contacts in your account.
  5. Damage to accommodation, transport or venues is borne by the family of the traveller responsible.

Phones, bedtimes and free time

  1. Phone use, bedtimes and free time follow each route's pre-departure information; they differ by age group and destination.
  2. Staff may ask for devices to be put away while an activity is running.
  3. Free time is taken in small groups, within the area and time the staff set.

Health and safety

  1. Staff work from what you told your advisor about allergies and dietary needs; what we are not told, we cannot prepare for.
  2. Regular medication is carried by the child and handed over as the pre-departure information describes.
  3. If medical care is needed, staff deal with it first and then contact the emergency contacts; records are kept as the safety page describes.

If the code is broken

  1. A minor breach: staff say so on the spot and, where needed, tell the parents.
  2. A serious or repeated breach that affects others' safety or the running of the trip: staff may decide that the traveller leaves the journey early; the cost of travel home and accompaniment is the family's.
  3. Any refund on an early departure follows the cancellation policy; there is no separate rule.

What we ask of ourselves

  1. The itinerary and accommodation are as the programme page and the pre-departure information state; changes are told in advance.
  2. We collect only what the journey needs and keep and use it as the safety page and the privacy notice describe.
  3. Anything we cannot do, we say before you book, not after departure.

Where it applies

This code applies on every MagiTrip journey. Read it before you sign, and ask us about anything that is unclear.
